Meaghan Grace Mrs. Cameron January 17, 2019 Artist StatementThis semester in my grade 11 media arts class, I was fortunate enough to learn and experience many new things that I’ve never known how to do. The main medium I used was pencil crayon and markers. I feel as if I work best using pencil crayon it makes me feel so in control of my art piece and that I am able to express myself better, whereas paint I don’t feel in control. My culminating project consisted of 2 parts ; A video for grade 8 open house night and then 2 creative pieces of my choice. I choose picture vs camera and thoroughly enjoyed that near the end of our semester. I was able to capture what I love and places I love to be with a camera as my main focus and then add my own twist to it. I completed this art in the year of 2019. I simply want whoever views this art to feel free and that art isn’t always structured. Art is inspiring weather that’s a few lines you’ve drawn or a whole picture you’ve drawn out. Art is meaningful no matter what you create. My art is simple, but I like it. I love colouring way more than I love drawing. I’m much better at using colour and that made me happy as I designed my art because I enjoyed what I was doing. I also would like to mention that there is no such thing as negative space. I like when my heart is completely full with my work. Negative space isn't attractive to the human eye and I wanna make sure I have many people's attention. I am reminded that nothing in life is perfect, you will never have a perfect straight line, your colours won’t always coordinate, and nothing always goes right the first time. You have to keep trying until you're satisfied with what you have accomplished. When somebody views my work I want them to sit back and question what went through my head . I want them to be curious. I want them to feel excited and powerful. What does my art mean? What made me choose the colours I did? What made me use zentangle to use up my negative space. I want them to continue to ask questions and be imaginative.
